Review: Wonder Woman, Vol 5: Ends of the Earth by Gail Simone

ww5Wonder Woman, Vol. 5: Ends of the Earth by Gail Simone

At the ends of the universe, Wonder Woman falls victim to the Black Horizon, risking the safety of her soul. To salvage her very existence, she must ally herself with the legendary Beowulf and another fearsome warrior from DC’s past while trapped on a world where her powers have betrayed her and brutal combat rules the day. But will victory cost Wonder Woman her soul?

Featuring the long-awaited return of some of the most savage characters in DCU history, not to mention all-out war between Diana’s Gorilla Knights and the Department of Metahuman Affairs

Diana gets pulled into the Black Horizon, and has to join forces with Beowulf and the Claw in order to fight against the very Devil himself. They cover many different planes and realities, as Diana feels her powers, then her very soul slipping away. Meanwhile in the Department of Metahuman affairs, Tom is sent to investigate Diana, by Director Steele who is becoming more unstable and dangerous as time goes by. Tom comes across the Gorilla Guards, the hyperintellegent Gorillas in Diana’s flat, and meets up with Diana’s sister in order to recover the situation. The Tom storyline is short but gives a little depth to Diana’s non Amazon world.

Drawing and inking is strong and clear, and the panels are uncluttered and easy to follow

The hardback contains another shorter story at the back, which is Diana checking out the Making of the Wonder Woman movie. I was less interested in this one, but did enjoy the humour of the gorillas as they try and fit into the world of Hollywood meetings
