100 years ago this year was the start of the 1st World War. Whether you agree with war or not, it’s still 100 years ago and some people are marking it with reading books, poetry etc from the period.
I know I read some poetry from the time when I was a lot younger – and i suspect I didn’t recognise it really for what it was. People like Siegfried Sassoon and Wilfred Own, who died terribly young, whilst still producing a volume of poetry probably never seen before or since.
So: I know it’s already part way through 2014, and I haven’t even started looking at stuff. What should I at least attempt to read – poetry, prose or otherwise – to mark WWI and possibly take me into 2018?
